One wash for a county of gravel roads and redwood driveways
Humboldt County is not one kind of dirty. Out toward Blue Lake and Willow Creek it is summer dust on a gravel road. On the coast in Trinidad and Samoa it is salt spray. In Ferndale and the Eel River bottoms it is winter mud from the Eel River flood plain. Under the redwoods from Arcata to Fortuna, it is sap and needles on a car parked in the shade.
A hand pre-scrub handles all of it the same way, by getting the heavy stuff off before the car meets the cloth. That is the difference between a wash that looks clean in the lot and a wash that still looks clean when you get home to McKinleyville.
Why drivers come from the county towns
Most of the county's errands run through Eureka. Broadway is the road in from the south and the road most people take across town. A wash that hand dries, takes about twenty minutes for the Quick Clean Out, and does not need an appointment fits into the same trip as the hardware store.
- Arcata and McKinleyville: about 8 to 15 miles south on 101, straight down Broadway
- Fortuna, Ferndale, and Loleta: 101 north into Eureka, and the wash is on the right as you come into town
- Blue Lake, Trinidad, and the county beyond: pair it with the Eureka errands you are already making
The county's 24-hour bays
Work trucks, boats coming back from the bay, ranch rigs, and the dog that found the beach all end up at the self-serve bays, which stay open 24 hours with vacuums right next to the stalls. If it is too big or too muddy for the tunnel, the wand handles it.
